VENICE — This past Friday, Sept. 25, on the eve of the fall holiday known as Sukkot, members of the Jewish Congregation of Venice were able to finish decorating the temple’s Sukkah — an outdoor shelter — in time to begin using the special shelter for the weeklong harvest celebration.
Branches with fall leaves had finally been placed atop the lattice that served as the base of the roof area. Several rain storms had prevented completion of the Sukkah until Friday.
Members of the congregation hoped to be able to have something to eat in the shelter after Friday services…
