HCA Florida Englewood Hospital celebrates 1,000th robotic surgery case

ENGLEWOOD — HCA Florida Englewood Hospital celebrated 1,000 robotic surgeries, a milestone in the hospital’s use of advanced surgical methods.

“This was an important landmark achieved by our team, including the hard-working operating room staff and surgeons,” Dr. Shea Jones stated. “Everyone has worked hard to foster the growth of the robotics program. Robotic surgical technology and techniques have enhanced my practice significantly, all to the benefit of our patients.”

Jones is a general surgeon.

“It is exciting for me to be part of an improved patient experience that allows people to address their surgical needs in such an improved way,” Jones said.

Robotic-assisted surgery is a minimally invasive approach that can be the most effective, least-invasive option for specific procedures.

Potential benefits to patients include:

• Smaller incisions/scars

• Less post-procedure pain with decreased narcotic requirement

• Decreased risk of infection

• Early return of bowel function

• Faster return to work/normal activity
