Savannah mayor addresses public fears over water safety

I wanted to take the opportunity to respond to Courtney Monroe’s May 28, 2026 letter for the Savannah Morning News, “Savannah residents still fighting for clean water.” The City of Savannah understands and shares our residents’ concerns about the quality and safety of their drinking water. Those concerns are legitimate, they deserve answers, and they will not be dismissed. We take seriously our responsibility to provide safe, reliable drinking water and to keep the public informed.

Savannah’s drinking water system is subject to rigorous testing, stringent regulatory oversight, and regular public reporting. The City continuously monitors water quality, evaluates evolving federal and state standards, and invests in the operational and infrastructure improvements necessary to protect our water supply for generations to come.
