SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) – It became officially official for the Georgia Southern East Georgia Campus who, as of July 1st, has become a part of the NAIA instead of the NJCAA, which they participated in while operating as East Georgia State College.
The East Georgia Campus will be one of six new NAIA additions this year, bringing men’s and women’s basketball, baseball, softball, and the newly added cross country to the NAIA. The transition becomes official today, but was approved back in April, with the GSU East Campus Athletic Director Joe Heikkinen saying that the Georgia Southern ties made a big difference in their approval by the NAIA.
“Yeah, I think the fact that we are apart of Georgia Southern and the greater eagle nation was a big plus for us,” said Georgia Southern East Georgia Campus Athletic Director Joe Heikkinen. I mean, just to have the resources of Georgia Southern behind us and I think that was one of the factors that really made sense to them.”…
