It was just November when Josh Gruber, Hardeeville’s city manager, spoke about the intersection alignment of Short Cut and Jasper Station roads along Argent Boulevard.
At the time, Gruber said the city had no plans to widen Argent Boulevard itself. “We’re still at the very beginning of what that entire corridor improvement is going to look like,” he said.
But 10 months later, that has changed. The plan to widen the nearly 4-mile stretch of two-lane Argent Boulevard, which drivers use to avoid the heavily congested U.S. 278 and SC 170 interchange known locally as McGarvey’s Corner, is underway, and officials want to hear what the public thinks.
Back in 2024, Jasper County voters approved a “penny tax” referendum, a 1% sales tax to raise an estimated $470 million for road improvements and greenbelt initiatives.
