Step Up Savannah and ACE Women’s Business Center presents ‘GoGal Microgrant Program’

SAVANNAH, Ga (WSAV) – At least 20 women will go through the GoGal Microgrant Program, coaching future businesswomen.

They are doing this in partnership with ACE Women’s Business Center. Alicia Johnson, executive director of Step Up Savannah told News 3 they are calling on women of color and single heads of household to join.

“The folks most in poverty or most affected by asset poverty are single women, heads of households – women of color,” Johnson said.

She continued, “We also know that when businesses, black owned businesses, and minority owned businesses happen here in our community, we are supporting and creating on-ramps to the economy for our community. Everyone succeeds.”

For the first time in 14 years, they are offering this entrepreneurial pathway.

“They would have had to complete our Chatham Apprentice Program, which does hard skills, soft skills and life skills,” Johnson said. “Then, they go on to complete start up business training with ACE [Women’s Business Center]. Once they complete that training, which will start Feb. 8 and go through July 18, it will include everything from how to write a business plan, they’ll have business coaches assigned to them, and Bank of America is doing financial literary.”
