Beaufort County passes gunfire ordinance after changes

BEAUFORT COUNTY, S.C. (WSAV) — After much back and forth, the Beaufort County Council has officially moved forward with a gunfire ordinance, focusing primarily on unincorporated parts of the county.

The ordinance passed in the third and final reading, which takes it one step further than before. In the past, the council voted to send it back to the drawing board because it carried criminal penalties.

It has now been changed to a civil ordinance. That means, if a person intentionally discharges a firearm that endangers life or property, they could face a civil penalty or fine…
