Military leaders: ‘China and Russia remain the most significant long-term nuclear threats’

SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – Defense and military leaders who met at the fifth annual Nuclear Triad Symposium at LSU Shreveport (LSUS) warned that China and Russia remain the most significant long-term nuclear threats facing the United States.

According to an official press release from LSUS, leaders at the conference shared that Chinese and Russian threats have prompted an increased focus on modernizing America’s nuclear deterrent.

Hosted by BRF Defense, the National Institute for Nuclear Deterrence Studies, and LSUS, the symposium brought together experts from the military, defense industry, and academia to discuss the future of the U.S. Nuclear Triad , land-based intercontinental ballistic missiles, bomber-delivered nuclear weapons, and submarine-launched missiles.

Speakers highlighted China’s rapid nuclear weapons buildup, Russia’s large nuclear arsenal, and growing concerns that regional conflicts, particularly involving Taiwan or Europe, could escalate into nuclear confrontations.
