Community groups across Shreveport-Bossier host giveaways to ease back-to-school costs for families

SHREVEPORT-BOSSIER CITY, La. As students get ready to head back to the classroom, families across the Shreveport-Bossier area are getting support from local organizations working to make the start of the school year a little easier.

Community groups hosted back-to-school giveaways Saturday, providing students with free uniforms, school supplies, haircuts and other resources ahead of the first day of class.

The effort comes as families continue to feel the impact of rising back-to-school costs. According to the National Retail Federation, parents are expected to spend an average of $864 per K-12 student this year, with total spending projected to reach $43.3 billion nationwide…
