Trash truck load catches fire in Southwest DC

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — Crews responded to the Southwest Waterfront area Tuesday afternoon after a trash truck load caught fire.

In a post on the X platform just after 2 p.m., the DC Fire and EMS Department said the flames ignited in the back of the truck, prompting firefighters to unload the trash in the 1100 block of Half St. SW to extinguish the blaze.

Officials noted that there was “no immediate threat” to life, health or safety. However, drivers were encouraged to avoid the area as crews cleared the roadway.
