SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO)– An intense stretch of hot temperatures continues across KELOLAND.This is especially the case in West River, where triple-digit heat has been widespread since Saturday.
Some locations are starting to string together a stretch of consecutive 100-degree days, but are we approaching record territory?
We’ll start west this time around, where Rapid City is going to be knocking on the door of history. They had back-to-back days in the triple digits this past weekend, and if the forecast holds, they’ll easily set a new record for most consecutive days at or above 100 degrees. The current record is four days, set most recently in 2007.

Pierre has a little more work to do in this department. They almost began their streak on Sunday, but if they want to reach the top 10, they need five days in a row with that kind of heat. Their record is eleven days back in 1936. East River locations have a bigger hill to climb to reach the century mark once, let alone several times in a row…
