SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO) — For the first time in a little while, we have more than just heat to talk about in the short-term outlook. Unfortunately, it may not be the most ideal talking point in the world.
First, we’ll address the elephant in the room: The heat. It’s going to be another hot day across KELOLAND, with highs in the 90s and low 100s at times…the latter being more likely West River. A heat advisory is in place along and west of the James River through Sunday night. Please do what you can to stay cool and don’t overdo it with outdoor projects/activities.
This heat may actually lead to more than just another hot day, as showers and thunderstorms have been lurking in parts of KELOLAND this morning and may return later this evening.
A “Slight Risk” for severe weather is in place for portions of north-central and northeastern KELOLAND…extending as far south as the Huron area. A “Marginal Risk” fills the gaps for the rest of KELOLAND. Wind and hail are the main concerns with any storm that can come along, but an isolated tornado can never be ruled out completely.
We have one more hot day on the way for Monday, and we’re going to make it count with some areas to the east even getting in on a chance to hit 100 degrees. After Monday, however, the fever FINALLY breaks.
It won’t be a massive cool-down, but we’ll return to the 80s for highs through midweek and even toward the late-week outlook for some of you. Enjoy this break if you get the chance, because we do have 90s coming back by next weekend into the start of next week.
Along the way, we do also have some chances for rain to discuss. The second half of the work week features some chances for showers and a few thunderstorms, especially West River. With that said, though, we do get a few chances to the east on Thursday.
