Snowpack takes a jump as spring approaches

SPOKANE, Wash. — A lot can change in three weeks, including the snowpack in the Inland Northwest. After flirting with record lows all winter, recent snows are clawing the snowpack out of the cellar ahead of the April peak.

Many snow stations around the region are up 25 to 50 percent since Valentine’s Day. Ski conditions are much improved from a month ago.

Yet, even with many feet of snow up in the mountains, gains in the snowpack have only pushed this year out of the bottom 10 percent of the record, but just barely. The 2023-2024 snowpack remains the lowest since 2015.
