As the Inland Northwest braces for another hot summer, the shade of a mature tree is more than just a backyard luxury; it’s a public health necessity.
For Justyce Brant, the Urban Forestry program director at The Lands Council, the mission is simple but massive: get 1,500 trees in the ground every year until the city doesn’t feel like a frying pan.
“Trees are the only non-energy intensive solution to cooling our cities,” Brant says. “We’re already experiencing really, really hot summers, and it’s anticipated to get worse. Let’s get them in the ground.”…
