Spokane County deputies use Air-1 helicopter to track reckless driver

SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. – A 25-year-old driver was arrested for reckless driving and several felony charges after Spokane deputies used the Air 1 helicopter to track her, avoiding a car-based high-speed pursuit.

The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office said the incident began when the driver attempted to evade a deputy who used his emergency lights to try to stop her for reckless driving. The attempted traffic stop happened around 3:20 p.m. on Wednesday near E. Sprague Avenue and S. Custer Road, the sheriff’s office said.

The sheriff’s office said Air 1 advised it was in the area and had located the “recklessly fleeing SUV” at 3rd Avenue and Havana Street. The support from Air 1 provided location updates and alleviated the need for a car-based pursuit, the sheriff’s office said…
