SPOKANE, Wash. — The sister of a man who was shot and killed by Spokane County Sheriff’s Office deputies near Deer Park two years ago is suing the county and three deputies who fired at him.
In a complaint for damages filed in Spokane Superior Court on March 27, Dawn Hegel claims that deputies escalated the attempted arrest of her brother, Donald Hegel, and only attempted to treat his wounds 20 minutes after shooting him nine times.
“The officers’ actions were egregious, excessive, unreasonable, and well outside the standards that police officers must follow when interacting with citizens of Spokane County,” reads the complaint…
