SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) – Blowing past a stopped school bus could cost you more money and more points on your license. And if you hit or injure a child, you’ll get a felony charge. It’s all in a new law to create safe zones for kids.
Governor Mike Kehoe signed Missouri’s Senate Bill 1421 into law last week. It makes several changes regarding public safety in the state. Two of the provisions involve driving and school buses.
“It’s not just Springfield; it’s nationwide; it’s a very prevalent issue,” said Springfield Public Schools’ transportation director Keith Adams. “It really stems from distracted driving: somebody’s distracted and looking at their phone or doing something like that, and they don’t notice the stop sign come out.”…
