Historic Barry County church vandalized; members hope those responsible learn from their actions

BARRY COUNTY, Mo. (KY3) – A more than century-old church in Barry County is cleaning up after someone broke in and vandalized the sanctuary.

Susan Bowling, secretary of Liberty Bible Church on Farm Road 1182 near Aurora, said she discovered the damage when she arrived to mow the grass and found a door kicked in.

What was damaged

Bowling said the intruders knocked down and shattered light ballasts, poked them through the walls, overturned an old piano, knocked over benches, threw songbooks across the floor, broke stained-glass and a statue.

“I was mowing and they had taken the light ballasts down and shattered all of them but one and poked them through the walls and knocked over an old piano, some of the benches, threw the songbooks everywhere. And literally there was glass everywhere,” Bowling said…
