Jenny Lind Hall residents in Springfield say elevator is broken again, leaving seniors and disabled tenants stranded

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) – Residents at Jenny Lind Hall say the building’s elevator has been breaking down repeatedly throughout July and was not working Tuesday, leaving elderly and disabled tenants unable to leave their apartments.

The outages come just months after a nearly two-year elevator outage at the six-story apartment building for seniors and people with disabilities.

‘Carried up on a machine’

Resident Valerie Allen said firefighters had to carry her upstairs because she could not make the climb herself. She said she has also missed medical appointments because she cannot get in or out of the building.

“It’s scary to be put in one of those chairs,” Allen said. “Because going up all those stairs, you’re looking downwards and you’re going backwards. And I shouldn’t be having to do this with the elevator’s supposed to have been fixed. And it’s not.”…
