SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) – When a food recall hits, health inspectors in at least two Ozarks counties say they do not wait to act.
The CDC says more than 6,000 people in 15 states have gotten sick in a cyclospora outbreak traced to iceberg lettuce from Taylor Farms in Mexico. The recalled product was sold to restaurants and stores, including some Taco Bell locations and Marketside lettuce at Walmart.
How inspectors respond
When a recall notification arrives, Eric Marcol of the Springfield-Greene County Health Department said inspectors move without delay.
“We respond immediately,” Marcol said. “We receive recall notifications from the state Department of Health and Senior Services, and along with that notification comes a distribution list. So, we know exactly which food establishments it may have been — the product may have been delivered to.”…
