‘It’s just not how you want to start the week out,’ The Sub Shop sees second break-in attempt in two months

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — One Springfield restaurant owner spent Tuesday morning picking up broken glass pieces after employees found someone had broken in the night before.

This isn’t the first time The Sub Shop on Seminole has been the victim of a burglary. Owner Ethan Seehusen says this is the second attempted break-in within the last two months.

Seehusen has owned The Sub Shop on Seminole for 20 years and is on a first-name basis with most of his regular customers.

He said he doesn’t keep money or anything of substantial value in his sub shop when the business is closed but that hasn’t stopped burglars from targeting his restaurant.

Two years ago, someone attempted to steal an ATM in his shop but was unsuccessful.

Seehusen said he still feels like his shop is in a safe neighborhood and numbers from SPD show incidents of stealing have gone down.

Data from January 1st to September 30th of 2023 show burglaries had gone down six percent compared to that same time frame from 2022.

Seehusen said he’s not going to let this incident bring him down because of the love and support he’s received from his employees and from the regulars he sees every day.
