Controversy surrounding lack of Fair Grove police officers

FAIR GROVE, Mo. – The Greene County Sheriff’s Office had to take over patrols in Fair Grove after nearly every police officer there was fired or quit.

This has caused some controversy in town, with Fair Grove residents questioning city leadership.

City officials told OzarksFirst everything was done by the book, but former officers said they were treated unfairly.

William Morgan resigned from the Fair Grove Police Department in December.

“You got some aldermen out here that think they run this town and they treat this town like they do run it,” Morgan said. “They don’t speak for the town.”

Morgan said city leadership meddled too much with the department; asking them to write fewer tickets and void speeding tickets from Highway 65.

“I was a victim myself, of good ole boy, small town politics,” Morgan said.

He told OzarksFirst that another officer spread rumors to city leaders, who then tried to fire him. He turned in his resignation letter a day after former Chief John Ewbank resigned.
