On July 25, 2012, the Fallin Brothers Building at 211-229 South Market Avenue in Springfield, Missouri (Greene County) was listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The two-story Fallen Building was constructed around 1919. It has a concrete foundation and brick walls. There are storefronts and garage doors at the ground level.

Backstory

This is a downtown commercial building about two blocks from the public square. Ever since it was built in 1919, it has served as a commercial building and is one of the area’s largest buildings.

The ground floor consists of commercial spaces and the second floor consists of warehouse space. Originally, it was built for livestock dealers. There were several businesses at the time associated with agriculture. Some businesses included wagon yards, feed stores, and livery yards.

In the 1910s and early 1920s, a large portion of the block was owned by Walter A. and Wiburn M. Fallin. They were stock buyers who acquired mules for the government during World War I. Their trade continued through the 1930s. They operated a livestock business in 1911. They came to this block on Market Street in 1916.
