SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (Edited News Release/KY3) -The City of Springfield’s Environmental Services Department, through its Wastewater Division, has launched a new public education campaign, Know Your Pipes, aimed at helping residents better understand how the wastewater system works and how everyday actions at home can prevent sewer backups, overflows, and costly damage.
The campaign’s message, “Protect the Flows. Know Where It Goes,” emphasizes that what goes down household drains impacts the entire neighborhood. Improper disposal of fats, oils, and grease (FOG), wipes, and other non-flushable items can clog pipes, damage infrastructure, and increase the risk of sewer overflows, especially during heavy rain events.
