MOUNT VERNON, Mo. — A southwest Missouri veteran gets a surprise, and a little help, from volunteers.
“This was a big shock,” said Glenn Dulaney, Army Ranger Recon veteran.
Volunteers spread out across Mt. Vernon cleaning up yards and freshening up public spaces. One of their many projects brought them Dulaney.“On this specific property we’re cleaning it out. We’re getting all of the weeds out, all of the damaged goods, pulling up tree stumps,” said Tommy Figures, Love Mount Vernon Day Volunteer.

Not only did volunteers give their time, but many like Austin Gurney even brought their own tools to support keeping Mount Vernon clean and safe.
“I just wanted to help as much as I could. I mean I have the equipment and I just figured it would be good to bring everything out here and get as much done as possible,” said Gurney.
Dulaney says he’s grateful for the help because he wouldn’t have been able to tackle the work himself.“What they are doing is just cleaning this up and helping us out which is nice. My friends are all gone and passed and its just left up to me,” said Dulaney…
