Grant Beach and Westport pools closed for summer due to damage

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — The outdoor pools at Grant Beach and Westport will be closed this summer due to significant damage found at both locations, the Springfield-Greene County Park Board announced this week.

The Grant Beach Pool has been closed since severe storm damage and high winds on April 29, 2025, lifted and destroyed the poolhouse roof. The Park Board says repairs are set to begin on May 26, but construction is not expected to be finished until August.

For Westport Pool, pre-season inspections conducted by staff found major underground infrastructure failures, including separated drain pipes and substantial water loss totaling one-third of the pool’s capacity. The Park Board says additional evaluation is being performed to assess long-term repair needs and ensure responsible investment of public funds at all outdoor pools.

“We know this is disappointing news for families and neighborhoods that rely on these pools each summer,” said Parks Director Ron Schneider in a press release. “We especially recognize the impact on kids and residents who look forward to these facilities as part of their summer routine.
