SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) – Community Blood Center of the Ozarks, the sole supplier of blood, platelets, and plasma to patients at more than 40 hospitals, is calling on donors to give blood before the Memorial Day weekend at the Great Gas Card Giveaway Blood Drive on Friday, May 22.
Donors who give blood at the Community Blood Center of the Ozarks donor center on Friday, May 22, will receive:
- Mystery Casey’s gift card valued at $10, $25, $50 or $100
- Three-quarter sleeve All-American Donor T-shirt
- Give & Go Fun Pass, valued at more than $245 in free admissions and activities to Andy B’s, Fritz’s Adventure, SuperSplash USA, and Northwest Arkansas Naturals
Donation hours
Donation hours for the Great Gas Card Giveaway Blood Drive are:
- Springfield Donor Center, 220 W. Plainview Road: 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Joplin Donor Center, 2318 E. 32nd St.: 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
- Bentonville Donor Center, 1400 SE Walton Blvd.: 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
- Springdale Donor Center, 3503 S. Thompson St.: 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
All donor centers will be closed Monday, May 25, in observance of Memorial Day.
Trauma season begins
As Memorial Day weekend approaches, Community Blood Center of the Ozarks is urging donors to fuel the blood supply before hitting the road.
“Memorial Day weekend marks the unofficial start of summer, but it also signals the beginning of what we call trauma season,” said Michelle Teter, Community Blood Center of the Ozarks media relations representative. “Between Memorial Day and Labor Day, hospitals typically use more blood due to an increase in serious injuries, while donations often slow as people travel and adjust to summer schedules. Donating ahead of the holiday can make a critical difference in keeping a stable blood supply for our community.”…
