SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) – Memorial Day weekend is here, and AAA projects 39 million people across the U.S. will drive to their vacation destination to kick off summer. In the Ozarks, rising gas prices are affecting some people’s plans.
“I think it’s gonna impact the locals around here a lot,” said Jennifer Thompson. “I know a lot of people are working 2 to 3 jobs just to pay bills, gas, car payments, and stuff. It’s very hard.”
The price of gas in Springfield is about $0.35 lower than the national average, but it’s still over $4 a gallon. This is also a dollar more per gallon than travelers paid in 2025…
