LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – As summer turns to fall, many Kentuckians are seeing more stink bugs appearing in buildings and homes.
The brown marmorated stink bug has become a common sight for Kentuckians, especially inside homes. It has become a growing issue each year since the invasive insect arrived in Kentucky in 2010.
Why stink bugs seek shelter in the fall
Julie Peterson, extension entomologist for the University of Kentucky, said this time of year is when sightings increase.
“This time of year, September and October, we do really start to see more of the brown marmorated stink bugs,” Peterson said. “They are looking for a place to spend the winter they’re attracted to the sides of homes and buildings. They’re looking for little cracks and crevices, they think that maybe our homes are like a rocky cliff face and they’re entering into find a safe spot that’s not gonna get as cold during the winter.”…
