South Carolina man will spend life in prison for murdering wife

CHEROKEE COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) — A man will spend the rest of his life in prison after being found guilty of murdering his wife.

According to the Seventh Circuit Solicitor’s Office, Dionicio Abarca was found guilty of murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.

The 46-year-old received a sentence of life in prison for murder and an additional five years for the possession of a weapon while committing a violent crime.

On July 18, 2020, Alicia Garcia and Abarca, her husband, told their kids that they were going to run errands at a field they owned, a rental property and Walmart. The two never returned home.

The next day, the children reported their parents as missing. The kids also told officials that their parents had had an argument the night of July 17.

Deputies with the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office went to look at the locations. In the field at 186 Concord Heights Road, officials found Garcia’s body partially buried. She had gashes in her head and neck that were made by a machete-like weapon.
