His door was always open: Family plans funeral, seeks support after Staten Island man tragically killed

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Funeral services have been planned for Leton Justin Meyers, 72, a well-known figure within the Central American communities of Staten Island whose door was always open to those in need.

Meyers, a native of Belize and a New Brighton resident for more than 40 years, lost his life after being struck by a bus May 15 on Forest Avenue in Port Richmond.

His home was known as a welcoming place filled with food, music, laughter and support for anyone who needed it, according to those who knew him best…
