After miles of backups, Staten Island Korean War Veterans Parkway lane to reopen within 2 weeks

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Relief is on the way for frustrated drivers on the Korean War Veterans Parkway: A lane closed for construction is expected to reopen within two weeks and won’t shut down again until after Labor Day, a state transportation official said Wednesday night — even as ongoing work continues to choke traffic along the busy southbound stretch.

NYS DOT released an updated timeline of the project after community uproar paused construction work for half a month.

The timeline of the project has been updated to the following schedule:

  • 2026
  • Labor Day to December
  • 2027
  • March to Memorial Day
  • Labor Day to December
  • 2028
  • March to Memorial Day
  • Labor Day to December

The work (projected to cost between $38 million and $48 million) is meant to replace the highway’s 17.3 miles of lanes, spread across the main parkway and its 15 off-ramps. Note that the ramp reconstruction of the southbound Arden Avenue exit is already completed…
