Penny-sized hail, 60 mph winds: Severe thunderstorm warning issued for Staten Island

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Staten Island Tuesday afternoon, warning residents to prepare for damaging winds and hail as storms move through the borough.

The warning remains in effect until 4:45 p.m. Tuesday.

Forecasters said the storm could produce wind gusts of up to 60 mph and penny-sized hail. The National Weather Service warned that strong winds could send unsecured objects airborne, create dangerous flying debris and lead to scattered power outages…
