STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — For Isabella Roman, giving back to Staten Island means helping children find their first smile.

Roman, a third-year medical student at CUNY School of Medicine who was born and raised on Staten Island, hopes to become a plastic surgeon specializing in cleft lip and craniofacial surgery.
