She spent 25 years in prison. Now Dawn Jackson wants people to listen

Dawn Jackson wants people to watch and listen, really listen, during the upcoming screening of the documentary film “Set Her Free” at this month’s Queen City Film Festival in Plainfield.

Because the stories told by the women in the film, including her own, are real, and they are using them to change lives and laws.

“Set Her Free” tells the stories of Dr. Jamila T. Davis, Cassandra Severe, Nafeesah Goldsmith, Donna Hylton, Denise Staples, Myrna Diaz and Jackson, all formerly incarcerated women, and explores the link between trauma and incarceration and how survivors of abuse are often punished rather than protected.
