Staten Island Community Board 3 takeaways: Trash bins, library update and park events

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The following are key takeaways from this week’s Community Board 3 meeting, which took place at the the CYO-MIV Community Center, Pleasant Plains.

These points represent some of the updates and discussions from both the public session and committee reports.

Trash bin mandate

Sanitation Department officials reminded residents that by June 1, all one- to nine-unit homes must use the official NYC Bin for curbsde trash collection. While Home Depot locations are restocking, several speakers said bins remain difficult to find on Staten Island and called for either improved availability or a delay in enforcement. Residents were also reminded that only the trash bin is required, with recycling and compost bins optional.
