Syracuse mayor suggests new locations for displaced Clinton Square festivals in 2027

At a downtown press conference Thursday, Syracuse Mayor Sharon Owens urged festivals and events to have patience and plan to remain in Syracuse as the city makes contingency plans to move events out of Clinton Square in summer 2027 because of nearby Interstate 81-related work.

City officials revealed last week they were planning renovations for the Inner Harbor in anticipation that Clinton Square would not be able to host festivals in summer 2027 because parts of the I-81 project are planned for around the square.

Asked about what feedback her office received from festivals, business owners and the community in response to the news, Owens said Thursday there was “a little panic.”…
