DPW Local 400 pickets Syracuse City Hall, urging return to talks as contract impasse filed

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Union members with the City of Syracuse Department of Public Works picketed outside city hall on Tuesday.

The picketing members were calling on the city and a mediator to return to the bargaining table to address concerns over their labor contract. The department said it has filed an impasse and is currently working without one.

Among the changes the Department of Public Works is seeking are adjustments to how overtime is measured. The union said that under the current system, overtime is only counted when workers exceed 40 hours in a week, regardless of how many hours they work in a row. The city can also mandate overtime…
