Four Syracuse officers exchanged gunfire with Tyler Court suspect, chief says

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — The Syracuse Police Department announced on Thursday that four officers exchanged gunfire with the man accused of shooting police at an apartment on Tyler Court on May 9.

Syracuse Police Chief Mark Rusin identified those officers as Lt. Patrick Moore, Sgt. Brian Bach, Sgt. Walter Brainerd and Officer Bryan Kloepfer.

Chief Rusin noted that in total, 19 officers were placed on paid leave under the department’s Officer-Involved Shooting protocol after the incident. 11 of them have returned to duty as of Thursday…
