Retrial begins for Tallahassee man accused in fentanyl death of 3-year-old

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – The retrial of Tony Balcom, who is accused to aggravated manslaughter in the death of three-year-old Enrique Evans began on Tuesday.

Balcom was tried in February but a mistrial was declared after about five hours of deliberation.

The child died in January 2023 after ingesting a fatal dose of fentanyl while in Balcom’s care. He was not the child’s father, but was his primary caregiver.

The child’s mother, Cameren Evans was found guilty in the toddler’s death in February after nearly two hours of jury deliberation.

Evans’s first trial also ended in a mistrial following eight hours of deliberation…
