TAMPA, Fla. – Tampa drivers who rely on South MacDill Avenue will need to budget some extra travel time or find an alternate route over the next few days.
Starting at 9 a.m. today, June 1, the Tampa Water Department is shutting down the southbound lane of South MacDill Avenue between Interbay Boulevard and West Wyoming Avenue. The daily closures are required so utility crews can perform scheduled maintenance work on the local water distribution system.
Rather than a total 24-hour blockade, the department is keeping the lane closed from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day to avoid conflicting with the heaviest early morning and evening rush hours. The city has deployed barricades and traffic flaggers to the neighborhood to guide vehicles safely past the work zone.
