Tampa is waking up to partly cloudy skies Sunday, but the day will bring the familiar Florida combination of rising heat, thick humidity and thunderstorms. Temperatures should climb to around 91 degrees before storms and cloud cover knock readings back toward the mid-80s during the afternoon.
Scattered showers and thunderstorms have about a 50% chance of developing, with activity expected to move inland from the Gulf as the day progresses. The National Weather Service says the heat index could reach 100 degrees, while any stronger storm may bring frequent lightning, gusty winds or a brief heavy downpour.
Sunday Afternoon Looks Like The Stormiest Window
Morning showers and storms may linger near the coast before shifting inland during the afternoon. Winds will stay relatively light from the southwest at roughly 2 to 8 mph, but outdoor plans can still get disrupted quickly once a storm develops.
Sunday night should be quieter, with isolated showers or thunderstorms possible before 8 p.m. Skies will turn partly cloudy, and temperatures will settle near 77 degrees.
