Tampa, Hillsborough put boots on the ground fighting dengue fever

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Officials with Hillsborough County and the City of Tampa are asking residents to make a habit of checking around their homes for standing water to combat the spread of dengue fever.

“It takes everyone to help this problem,” said Paolo Pecora, a senior environmental scientist with Hillsborough County.

Pecora has been on the front lines of the county’s battle against the mosquitoes carrying dengue fever. He said that oftentimes, residents don’t realize just how little water it takes to create a suitable habitat for mosquitoes, and it could be anything in your yard causing it…
