Tampa police arrest man after road rage shooting that injured 4-year-old

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Tampa Police have arrested James D. Jackson, 34, after they say he fired several shots into a car during a road rage incident.

One of the shots hit a four-year-old child. Police say the four-year-old is expected to recover and an eight-year-old child in the car was not injured.

Police say the driver of the victim’s car did nothing wrong and it’s unclear what angered Jackson.

Police say the incident began just before 6 p.m. on Tuesday. Police say the victims were driving east on Melbourne Boulevard in Tampa and were trying to turn south on 50th Street when Jackson pulled up alongside their car and started firing shots.

Police were able to track Jackson’s car using their helicopter and arrested him a short distance later.

Police say as officers closed in on Jackson, he threw a weapon out of his car. Officers were able to recover the firearm and arrested Jackson.

Jackson is now facing charges of attempted murder and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

He has served time in prison before for attempted murder and armed robbery.
