A plan to build up to 346 homes on 53 acres near Desert Ridge would replace a site currently zoned for just 53 homes — and the road connecting it to the surrounding neighborhood has become the sharpest point of contention.
K. Hovnanian Great Western Homes is seeking to rezone land at the southwest corner of 56th Street and Ranger Drive from ranch/farm designation to single-family residential, according to Addendum A of the city staff report (Z-15-26-2). The Arizona State Land Department owns the 53.20-acre site, which sits within the Desert Ridge Specific Plan area in Desert View Village.
