5 freeways closures scheduled for weekend construction across Phoenix-area

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Before you head out the door this weekend, the Arizona Department of Transportation is reminding drivers of several Valley-wide freeway closures that could affect your drive time.

Five freeways across the Valley will be closed for construction and improvement projects. Drivers should avoid the areas and use alternate routes.

Freeway closures for June 5-8:

  • Southbound SR 51 will shut down between Indian School Road and Interstate 10 from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for an ongoing pavement improvement project.
  • Eastbound Loop 202 Santan will close between Price Road and Arizona Avenue from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for a widening project.
  • Northbound Interstate 17 will close between Cactus and Union Hills roads from 11 a.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Monday for overhead sign maintenance.
  • Southbound Loop 101 Price will shut down between Loop 202 Red Mountain and US 60 from 9 p.m. Friday to 2 p.m. Saturday for pavement repairs.
  • Northbound Loop 101 Price will close between US 60 and Loop 202 Red Mountain from 9 p.m. Saturday to 2 p.m. Sunday for pavement repairs.

Ramp closures:

  • Southbound on-ramps at Glendale Avenue, Bethany Home Road and Highland Avenue
  • Loop 101 Price ramps to eastbound Loop 202
  • Northbound I-17 on-ramps closed at Dunlap and Peoria avenues

In addition, drivers should note that the northbound Loop 101 Pima will be narrowed to two lanes between Shea Boulevard and Princess Drive from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for pavement improvements.
