Brains, brawn mark Desert Vista grad’s freshman year

For most first-year engineering students, adjusting to college life away from home is challenging enough.

For Ahwatukee native Vaughn Watson, it also meant losing 30 pounds, maintaining a strict diet, training daily — and stepping onto a bodybuilding stage for the first time.

“I did a five-month prep for the show,” Watson said. “But I’ve been consistently lifting for about five years overall.”
