TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – Residents near 3530 Suder Avenue say broken glass, debris, overgrown grass and weeds left behind after a demolition are creating safety hazards in their neighborhood.
The property, which the city of Toledo has always owned, was the site of a former Toledo fire station that operated through the 1970s before closing in 1980 due to city budget cuts. It later served as a boxing gym until 2020, when it was shut down due to structural issues. The building was demolished in May.
“It’s been sitting here vacant like this,” said neighbor Shawn Ross. “The groundhogs are overrunning it and everything like that. They are just multiplying like crazy.”
