When Tony Garzony saw the poor condition of the Heather Downs Country Club in 2023, he decided to buy the historic 144-acre site and return it to its former glory.
“The guys who owned it before me really let it run down. I’m a golfer, and I know what golf courses look like,” Mr. Garzony said of the club, which was established in 1924. “I was really surprised how far they let it go.”
He’s made $350,000 in improvements to the club in the past few years, including upgrades to the carts, asphalt cart paths, sand bunkers, the roof on the pro shop, nets on the driving range, aeration and fertilization of the greens and fairways, and removal of trees throughout the course…
