LENAWEE COUNTY, MI — A preliminary hearing for John Skelton is set to begin Monday, more than 15 years after his three young sons disappeared around Thanksgiving 2010 in Morenci, Michigan. The hearing is expected to last several days and will help determine whether the murder and evidence tampering charges against him can move forward.
The case has remained one of the most disturbing unsolved disappearance cases in southeast Michigan. Andrew Skelton was 9, Alexander Skelton was 7 and Tanner Skelton was 5 when they vanished while with their father during the holiday weekend. Their bodies have never been found, despite searches in Michigan and Ohio and tips that reached investigators from across the country.
Missing brothers remain at the center of a 15-year investigation
The Skelton brothers disappeared from Morenci, a small town near the Ohio border about 100 miles southwest of Detroit. Since then, investigators have tried to piece together what happened after the boys were last seen with their father. The case has unsettled the community for years, in part because no one has publicly confirmed where the children went or what happened to them.
In March 2025, a judge declared all three brothers dead at the request of their mother, Tanya Zuvers. That decision came after years of searches and unanswered questions, even as the case continued to draw attention from law enforcement and missing-person advocates. The brothers would now be old enough to have graduated from high school.
Skelton already served prison time for failing to return the boys
